Where's that girl coming from?

More than you ever need to know about Lizzy…

About Lizzy McGlynn

Lizzy McGlynn is an energetic young woman, proudly hailing from Lubbock, Texas, the Hub City of the South Plains. Like many of the creative personalities from Lubbock, including Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Joe Ely, and the Flatlanders, Lizzy felt both inspired and trapped by growing up in such an isolated environment. Lubbock continues to be an important influence and ironic source of pride for Lizzy, even as she lives hundreds of miles away in Brooklyn, New York, enjoying city life.

After 18 years of Lubbock, Lizzy proceeded to Denton, TX where she attempted to fulfill her dreams as a singer/songwriter in one of the most prestigious music programs in the country: The University of North Texas. Like so many aspiring young musicians, she realized that she simply wasn't that good and instead decided to fulfill the family legacy of Academia.

After graduating from the Honors Program at the University of North Texas, Lizzy proceeded immediately to graduate school at the University of Delaware to pursue her PhD in Social Psychology and quantitative methods. Having spent one summer in NYC, her longing for the creative energy of the place and the people once again forced her to realize that her career goals were out of whack. While she relished the educational environment and the field of Social Psychology, quantitative research and publication were removed from applying the ideas she loved. Finally, inspired by Malcolm Gladwell, she decided to try to share her perspective with the world through her creative pursuits. Submitting to her long time love of public broadcasting and newfound love for city life, she permanently moved to NYC to try to break into the biz. Meanwhile, she survived by employing her training in social science and statistics as a researcher writing surveys and analyzing data for the Harris Poll.

Apparently unable to leave the student life behind, in the fall of 2002, Lizzy began an MFA in Television and Radio Production at Brooklyn College. During this time, she had fantastic experiences interning at the Arts division at Channel Thirteen, New York's local PBS affiliate, and at The Brian Lehrer Show, New York's preeminent daily call in radio show. Both interning experiences led to further paid employment working on programs she is proud of.

Since then, Lizzy has had a varied career that includes producing promotions and an Academy Award nominated short for Thirteen/WNET; web video and podcasts for the award winning news magazine NOW on PBS; non-fiction television programs for ABC News Productions; and freelance work for institutions such as the UN Department of Public Information.

Lizzy plans to continue her career focusing on work congruent with her mission of educational broadcasting. While she is currently doing television, she has several Currently, Lizzy focuses on producing documentary films. She produced a fantastic film on American printmaking with talented director and favored collaborator Christopher Noey entitled All About Prints. The film has aired on PBS member stations and continues to be screened in museums and educational institutions around the world (e.g., The British Museum in London, MOMA NYC). Lizzy most recently Co-Produced Phil Ochs: There but for Fortune, a biographical documentary about the life and music of the 1960's protest singer Phil Ochs. Distribution of the film is forthcoming.

Lizzy is happily married to a talented web developer and web/video/interactive designer, Mark Reilly. They live in beautiful Ditmas Park in Brooklyn, NY and love to travel. Please check back, as Lizzy is always in progress!
